Nancy Kelly, SMMPA Energy Services Rep, and Glenn Anderson, Mora City Administrator, showed off the Big Check for 7 Paisley Pumpkins. Josh and Kristin Wachsmuth, the building owners, purchased this historic two-story building on Union Street. A 1975 vintage steam boiler originally heated the upstairs apartments. Josh gutted the second floor and removed the steam radiators. In their place he installed high-efficiency mini-split heat pumps to provide both heating and cooling. All new lighting was high- efficiency LED. Josh and his wife live in one of the units and they use the others for short term rentals. These projects qualified for a total rebate of $3,438, with estimated annual energy savings of $900. This project reduces greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to planting six acres of forest or taking one car off the road. Josh shared, “It is so easy to get rebates and Nancy helps with any questions on the forms. We really appreciate this program!”

This project included replacing an older rooftop AC unit with energy-efficient mini-split air source heat pumps. While the building still has gas heat, the new mini splits will do a respectable job of heating the space during milder winter temperatures. Theresa also replaced the older inefficient light fixtures with new energy-efficient LED fixtures. These projects qualified for a total rebate of $1,076 with estimated annual energy savings of $440. This project reduces greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to planting three acres of forest or taking one car off the road.

The projects included high-efficiency chillers, mini-split AC units, variable speed drives on air handling units, high-efficiency motors on exhaust fans and circulators, interior and exterior LED lighting, and food service equipment. These projects qualified for a total rebate of $215,607, with estimated annual energy savings of $65,709. This project reduces greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking eighty-one cars off the roads. Dan shared, “This is such a great facility for students and staff. We appreciate all the work done by Mora Public Utilities to maximize our rebate. This investment will pay off for the community for years to come.”
